    Nrrd Riot!

From what I’ve seen on Facebook, the prevailing opinion among geeks (myself included) is that this is Not A Good Thing. I worry about the Disneyfication of the Marvel franchises — e.g., Kitty Pryde has a teen crisis that gets resolved in half an hour, Wolverine saves the princess, Submariner/Little Mermaid crossover, etc.

I don’t *really* think any of these scenarios would actually play out, but what I can see happening is Disney saying to Marvel, “let’s make these stories more family friendly, mmm-kay?” and having them become less edgy.

do you really think the marvel franchises are THAT edgy in the first place? i don’t see marvel going g-rated, so i think it’ll be ok. in particular, pixar has not lost its touch after being acquired by disney.

i recently read a story about disney management and how they’ve dramatically moved away from the “what would uncle walt do?” mentality. this seems like smart business. i’m hoping they’ll apply it to marvel.
