troy high = best high school
December 5, 2008, 3:56 pm
b/c u.s. news says so.
troy high gets a silver medal, basically b/c we have high-performing poor/minority contingents.
i was surprised to see that troy had only 4.6% minority enrollment, but i guess all those asians (not included) make it seem more diverse than this accounts for. apparently troy high is now 25.7% asian, which is holy crap even more than the 19.8% when i was there. one quarter asian. that’s insane.
this would be so much cooler if the only people who cared about rankings weren’t ivy league northeastern elites… do you think people in the midwest even know u.s. news & world report exists?
nope. we’re just a bunch of country bumpkins. higher education huh?
Dear Mr. Stink –
As a Midwesterner myself, I find your comment confusing. I read U.S. News. I have a personal subscription, and I keep extra copies on the tables in waiting room outside my Senate office. I care deeply about the rankings, as do many of my constituents. Please see:

Also, please note the comment of my dear friend Sally Mason at University of Iowa.
sen. harkin,
please, call me ratt. i profusely apologize for my previous comment, as i attended a prep school in massachusetts that adhered to a strict “fly-over country” curriculum, then an elite ivy league institution. as far as i know, only townies go to state schools. so you can hardly fault me for not knowing where iowa is… it is in the midwest, right? how close are you to california? i went to san francisco once, really liked the people and liberal atmosphere. bought a nice pair of birkenstocks when i was there.
Dear Ratt –
I like how you think. Maybe we should be Facebook friends?
Sincerely yours,
Tom
Yes, I too like rankings. Especially when it comes to ranking high schools. I’m sure my future employer would love to see that I went to one of the top rated high schools (public or not). “I’m sorry sir, I went to community college. But, hey my high school was ranked top 5 in the U.S. That must account for something right?”
If only I decied to go to High Tech High, I would of graduated from the 4th best highschool in the US. But I settled for public school and look at where I am now… getting a full page layout in Business Week.;)
Mr. Stink…I mean, Ratt,
Yes, Iowa is in the Midwest. I have heard Southern Iowa referred to on a number of occasions as “God’s Country.” Great place. Just stay the hell away from Indiana.
-Nasty
Dear Nasty,
Let’s leave Indiana out of this.

dear the lone hoosier-
if by “this” you mean “the united states,” then yes, by all means, let’s.
