yes, another road trip

so i’m accompanying a dude to his new home in huntington beach, california. we are leaving tonight and my flight back to DC is 9:30pm pacific time. do the math; this will be intense. i have nothing else to say about this besides, who goes on two road trips in six months?

ugh. i do.

probably no postings for a while, but do expect pictures of the beautiful texas scenery at the end.

watch your head: feminist rant coming

a conservative pundit asks: What rape crisis?

everyone else goes: ARE YOU SERIOUS?
rebuttal: Wrong on rape
salon: Girls, stop rape through “sexual restraint”!
and many, many more

from salon:

She argues that the reality “behind the rape hype” is “that it’s the booze-fueled hookup culture of one-night, or sometimes just partial-night, stands.” In other words, hookup culture is responsible for the disagreement between how women label their experiences of rape and how researchers define them.

Beyond her butchering of the statistics — and denial of the library of supporting research — her philosophical position is unconscionable. She actually argues that “greater sexual restraint would prevent campus ‘rape.'” If only she hadn’t worn that skirt, walked down that dark alley, had something to drink, smiled his way, she wouldn’t have been “raped.”

It’s a pity Mac Donald went through all this trouble to explain why so many women are resistant to calling a forced, nonconsensual sex act “rape,” when researcher are not. She need only look at the prevalence of victim-blaming attitudes like her own.

michael jackson is not a good person

from the university of wisconsin’s daily cardinal:
Overhyped Thriller 25 stains pop king’s legend

the joke: i’m sorry, but i thought it was the pedophilia that did the staining. hiyo.

rassling w/ the internets

with new beauty comes much hardship. i’ve been trying to figure out how to redirect all my posts to this new blog, and have failed pretty much miserably. it just makes me realize how much i do not know about making computer things work. time, once again, to outsource?

i really hate exclamation points, but this is how excited i am.

please let me know what you think of the new look, and much thanks to jessica and russell for being smarter and more talented than me–but still being my friends.

in conclusion, change your bookmarks, links, and RSS feeds. time for all of us to grow up.

lady, your hair is outrageous. that look might be OK in west virginia, but that shit don’t fly in ann arbor. and for the love of god, go buy a northface fleece.

obama/clinton and classical music

the only thing relating these two topics is that i have two stories about both from public radio.

1. a “management guru” from london talks about the U.S. presidency.

But, dare I say it, you have a small problem. The founding fathers have required you to elect a President who has to be both head of state and prime minister, the chairman and the chief executive. They are very different roles.

i think it’s clear that obama and clinton’s strengths are very different, and each seem to fill one of these roles better than the other. i guess the question is, what do you think the role of the president is? a chairman? or a CEO?

2. NPR says to listen to hard-to-find classical music on youtube. I’VE BEEN DOING THAT FOR MONTHS. for once, i’m ahead of the curve.

stuff asian people like

riffing off the “stuff white people like” site, a white friend and i thought, “wouldn’t it be funny to make an asian site?”

but damnit, someone else did it already.

obviously the white people site went viral last week, and some crafty asians were quicker to the punch than i was. oh well. i’ll offer up my own (and coop’s) ideas here. maybe someone else can expand upon them.

asian girls like: white guys
asian girls like: black guys
asian boys like: asian girls
asian boys like: shakira
asian people like: betamax/laserdisc
asian people like: violin
asian people like: noncontact sports (tennis, golf)
asian people like: break dancing
asian people like: louis vuitton

i don’t think i’m actually asian enough to properly write the asian people blog, but i can expound upon these if the demand is high enough.
